Pharmaceutical

The pharmaceutical sector includes the production of pharmaceuticals, vaccines and other medical products and is characterised by strict hygiene and safety requirements. The main risk is from explosive atmospheres caused by solvent vapours such as acetone and ethanol, which can lead to explosions or fires. Another hazard is the presence of dust hazards arising from the handling of powdered raw materials and finished products. In some manufacturing and mixing processes, hybrid mixtures combining gases and particulates may be present, increasing the risk of ignition. Conditions in this sector define strict requirements for technical equipment, including lighting systems. Luminaires here not only have to meet the EX environmental requirements of ZONE 1/21 and ZONE 2/22, but also the strict standards for cleanrooms, where minimum particulate emissivity and ease of maintenance are key. They must be able to withstand extreme temperatures, vibrations and chemically aggressive environments that may contain disinfectants and sterilising agents. In some production areas, weather conditions, temperature fluctuations and intense UV radiation must be taken into account. High quality lighting is essential in this sector. Luminaires must meet the requirements for high colour rendering index (CRI) and low glare (UGR) to ensure comfortable working conditions and allow accurate visual inspection. Lighting technology must have high protection ratings (IP65-IP67), ATEX and IECEx certifications and meet cleanroom standards, ensuring safety, longevity and high efficiency in demanding pharmaceutical environments.
